Natural Remedies for Scabies, Home Treatments

Scabies is a skin infection caused by mites, and is commonly seen in areas between the toes and fingers, armpits, around the wrist, beltline, folds of the elbows, buttocks, abdomen, nipples, genitalia and the groin. Small children and babies may get it on the scalp, soles of the feet and on the face.

It is contagious and can spread from one person to another. People living with the infected person need to be treated. All infected people should be treated at the same time to prevent reinfestation of this skin condition.

Natural Home Remedies for Scabies

1. Camphor is used in a number of skin ailments. It shows beneficial results in the treatment of scabies. Apply camphor mixed in coconut oil on the affected area for relief.

2. Neem oil is used in Ayurveda for hundreds of years as a natural treatment for scabies. It is helpful in stopping the breeding of the parasites inside the skin. It heals lesions caused by scratching, soothes the pain and itching sensation. For the treatment, add a couple of teaspoons of neem oil and some neem leaf tincture in a bathtub and soak your body inside it for 15 minutes. Then apply neem soap and use a neem lotion after you bath. This natural treatment may take some time to completely get you rid of the mites, but it guarantees an immediate relief from the itching.

3. Another useful home remedy for scabies is sulphur mixed with ghee and heated on a low flame till all the suphur is almost burnt. Take away from the heat and allow it to cool. Local application of this mixture on the affected area once or twice a day is found beneficial in the treatment.

4. The juice extracted from the fresh leaves of mint is also used as a natural treatment for scabies. Apply mint leaves juice locally on the affected area to get relief.

Bugs and mites live in your surrounding environment, bed sheets, pillows and cloths, so it is advisable to properly clean your bed sheets and cloths in an antibacterial detergent. Also take proper care of your room hygiene. All these will help in preventing the reoccurrence of scabies.
